Wow, bad echo around here these days... What's everyone up to? How were the holidays? Are you mired in fear over the capricious economy or (like me) being cheerfully delusional about everything?

Eatin' goober peas and stayin' out of trouble for the most part. When I'm not writing I'm usually reading to the kid, flirting with my wife, being weird on Facebook & Myspace, or generally making my publicists lives a living hell... That, and working on that other house, but that's a whole nother story that makes my head hurt. And, yeah... It IS awfully damn quiet in here... Murv

And I'm ass-deep in re-chartering madness at my job (which I hate). I've got some rather serious personal issues going on with one of my kids, so I've been working on that every day for weeks and weeks now. I'm trying* to read the Twilight series because one of my students is desperate to talk about books with someone. We had to put two of our dogs down because they just got too sick too fast. I got very sick myself over the holiday break, and I went and got way to drunk way too fast at the Murvyule celebration and made a fool of myself.
So that's why I've not chimed in much, although I check daily to see what's going on over here.
Somebody tell Charlie to grab me a reuben and let's start to get this place hoppin' again!
--The Lunatic, aka Tasialue, aka She Who Is Enjoying New Carpet in Her Room Right Now That She Didn't Have to Put Down Herself
* I say "trying" because dear GODS I'm being tortured by Stephenie Meyer. These things are painful to read. Murv, you had better write something FAST or I'm going to turn into a wistful, pouty, idiotic, codependent teenager with a sick desire to have sparkly skin.

eh ... hi ... Something happened to my computer and I lost all of my bookmarks ... in addition to that, I wasn't getting any emails for a while, but I believe that we've fixed that problem ... so now I'm just making my way around to getting my old bookmarks back ... including this one.

What was that, Anastasia? Stop whispering...Speak up... I went and got way too drunk way too fast at the Murvyule celebration and made a fool of myself.Oh, yeah, that... For the record, she did NOT make a fool of herself at all. She may have perceived it as such, but it was more along the line of having a whole houseful of folks concerned for her wellbeing. Now, after the fact... well, let's just say we've all been there - done that, and we've all paid the piper for our transgression (as in ruthless ribbing from our friends)...So, suffice it to say, we're extracting loose change from her every chance we get... I think this particular forum post is probably worth a dime, a nickel, and a couple of beat up ass pennies. (grin) Murv

I'm thinking if someone can actually remember parts of their drunken debaucle, then it probably wasn't as bad as they thought. It's when you don't know what happened that it's scary for you, but damned entertaining for everyone else! I am so sorry to hear about your dogs, Tasialue. Companions are hard to lose. So I'll admit I wanted to hate and mock the Twilight books. My teen niece is into the whole phenom, though, and since we like to talk books I thought I should at least try to read it. Big mistake. I'm thoroughly smitten. Another 40+ friend and I were talking -- after I got her to read them too -- and we realized it was because we so identified with the main character, who is an awkward misfit. And we so identified with that first true heartbreak. The stories themselves aren't that great, IMO, but the writing is disturbingly evocative. That, or Meyer has weaved a word spell in her prose. I AM NOT PROUD OF ADMITTING THIS, BTW! Now, Murv, when can we expect the next RGI book? I've re-read "Blood Moon," and think I'll go back and start the entire series again. Which means with the exception of "Harm None" and "Blood Moon", I'm going to have to buy them all again. Doh! For me, not much new and exciting. The small mag I was doing reviews for has folded. Not unexpected in this economy but still a bummer. It was so much fun while it lasted!
