I didn't watch this show for 8 years because I figured that since I liked the movie
a series would just insult me. I was wrong. These folks showed that they truly
liked the original and just wanted to build on that mythos. And boy did they!
Some folks don't like the last two seasons, but I found the concept fascinating.
They really play with the idea that no species is completely evil. Except for the
Wraith in Atlantis, who are simply feeding to survive, all the aliens introduced
have good counterparts. The Goa'uld have the To'kra, the Replicators have the
faction trying to reach ascension, and in an inverted fashion, the Ancients have
the Ori. It provides a nice balance. Very yin-yang.
Atlantis may still encounter some form of Wraith that is not evil. I've only been watching
it for about a year and playing catchup, and I will admit I don't find it as good
as SG-1 was, but it's not bad.
And we have two movies coming out this year, and rumors of a thrid series,
so I am excited by this.
